Both Marat Grigorian and Harut Grigorian fought at GLORY 54 in Birmingham yesterday.
Marat Grigorion, the #1 ranked lightweight in GLORY (51-10,2, 32KO), fought against China's Liu Xu will be fighting Liu Xu (17-3-0, 6 KO) on the GLORY 54 SuperFight Series. Grigorian pressured Xu against the ropes early in the fight and delivered uppercuts and hooks to the body. A straight right from Grigorian hit Xu hard late in the round, but Xu survived the round. Xu was not intimidated by Marat and attacked him with a series of kicks in the second round. Grigorian was looking for openings in Xu’s defense and picked up the pace. Grigorian gave Xu a nasty uppercut at the ending of round three. Marat won the fight by unanimous decision!
Harut Grigorian (47-11, 33 KO) had to defend his welterweight title for the first time, fighting against Alim "Professor" Nabiyev (49-6, 21 KO) from Russia. Nabiyev begged Grigorian to come forward in the first round. They exchanged knees before Grigorian attacked the body of Nabiyev to close the round. Round two began with a good start from Grigorian. He caught Nabiyev with a series of punches that stood him up. Nabiyev returned by countering the advance of Grigorian with punches and knees. Grigorian pushed forward aggressively and scored with low kicks. A straight right from Grigorian was the first significant strike to land in the third. Nabiyev continued to stay in range, willingly trading with the power-punching champion Harut. Grigorian delivered an uppercut from inside the clinch to swing the momentum back in his favor late in the frame. A right hand wobbled Grigorian for a moment, but he quickly recovered and answered back. Nabiyev tried to entice Grigorian to engage by taunting, but Grigorian was wise to the strategy as the fight went the distance. Harut Grigorian won by unanimous decision and got to keep his welterweight title!
